Tortilla Wrap Bento
Today’s breakfast was simple – “miku”, some oranges and cherries and a glass of barley drink.
Today’s lunch is a bit different from usual as hubby won’t be having rice for lunch but tortilla wraps which I made yesterday and I just toasted them in the oven this morning. I’m not sure how many tortilla wraps to pack to keep him full until dinner time so I packed in 2 tortilla wraps, cut into 4 small portions so that he can eat them easily. When he saw his bento this morning, he said it might be too much and he can leave some for afternoon tea.
The wraps were wrapped with aluminium foil and I made a cut on the foil so that he can tear off the foil easily as he eats without dirtying his hands.
The tortilla wraps fit nicely into the bento box!
Fillings in my tortilla wraps – veggies and chicken breast
Cherries, blueberries, cucumber slices and cherry tomatoes
I haven’t been packing any bento for his afternoon tea for I think 3 or 4 days because I noticed that he’s usually busy at work and doesn’t really have time for a tea break. However, he complained about it yesterday already!
He said he didn’t have fruits or anything to bite on yesterday as he finished his lunch quite fast and still had some time and wanted fruits. He also said that it’s not a problem if he doesn’t have time for a tea break because he can eat them during the traffic jams on his way back home. He’s probably too free in the car and needs something to nibble at. So, I start to pack some fruits and veggies which he can nibble at after lunch, during tea break or on his way home, again.
Here, I’m going to share with you how I made my tortilla wraps. These may not be the correct ways of wrapping the fillings with the tortilla, hehe! I just tried it out on my own and I think I will try making the wraps another way next time since my wraps don’t look nice this time.
I roasted two chicken breasts the other day when I was roasting other food. Then, I keep my roast chicken breasts in the fridge until I need to use them for my tortilla wraps. This saved my time turning on the oven again just to roast two chicken breasts. The chicken breasts were into thin slices for the wraps.
I spread some roasted pepper and almond pesto on the tortilla. You can use cream cheese or whatever you prefer.
TOP LEFT: Place veggies on the tortilla (lettuce and cucumber)
BOTTOM LEFT: Place chicken breast slices
TOP RIGHT: Add more veggies (strips of capsicum and shredded carrots)
BOTTOM RIGHT: Cheese (I use leftover cheese which I keep after I cut some cute shapes out from them for other bentos)
You can use fillings of your choices. For me, I wanna include more veggies than meats.
After putting all the fillings, you can start to roll and wrap. I found that the tortilla sheets tend to break when I rolled and wrapped because it’s a bit hard. I think I should try heating the tortilla first to make it soft next time when I use. I then wrapped the tortilla wraps with aluminium foil and they can be kept in the fridge until you wanna eat.
I made a total of 5 wraps.
You should start by putting your tortilla on a sheet of aluminium foil if you intend to keep the tortilla or use a foil and especially if it will be your first time making a wrap. Because you may face problems like putting too much fillings and ends up the fillings will fall out when you fold the wrap, thus starting by putting your tortilla on the foil will save you some troubles when moving your wraps to the foil.
Toast your tortilla anytime you feel like eating
Does it look low fat and healthy? Not so sure but just tried to make something new for hubby’s lunch and to make it as healthy as possible. Haha
