Making Use of Egg Moulds For Jellies
We use jelly moulds if we want our jellies to come out with nice shapes or cute cartoons. For those who make bentos (you surely have some silicon food cups and egg moulds) or who have egg moulds at home, you can actually use them for your jellies.
Jellies in food cup and egg moulds
My silicon food cups and egg moulds can be used for making jellies because their high temperature resistance are 230 degree celsius and 120 degree celsius respectively, and low temperature resistance are -40 degree celsius and -20 degree celsius respectively. So, there’s no problem when you pour over the hot jelly mixture that you just boiled to the mould. Never use any plastic container that isn’t made to resist high temperature to make jellies because the heat could cause the chemical-BPA (one of it which I know for now) to leach from the plastic. BPA is of course no good for our body and it could cause cancer but it is used in making plastics. That is why mummies look for BPA-free milk bottles for the infants. So, be careful when you choose your plastic containers or bottles. Some people use plastic ice trays for the jellies but since ice trays are made for making ice cubes, do you think those trays can tolerate high temperature? We don’t usually use hot water to make ice cubes so I assume those trays aren’t suitable for making jellies. As egg moulds are used when the eggs are still hot, it’s safe to be used for making jellies. For safety purpose, check your egg moulds’ high temperature resistance before use.
After the jellies are set, you can just close the egg moulds like that and keep in the fridge until you need to pack them for your children or husband, or you can of course get the jellies out from the moulds and keep in a container once they’re set if you’re going to use the egg moulds for your eggs! These way, you get new jelly shapes.
