Elephant Bento
Today’s breakfast was same like yesterday’s. Didn’t prepare anything different for him because today is my grandpa’s 100th day since the day he passed away and I had to leave home early to a temple to pray. There’s also no snack bento today because hubby will be coming back home early to meet with our kitchen interior designer to measure the kitchen at our new home
The highlight for today’s bento is elephant onigiri.
Today’s vegetable is steamed xiao bai cai. Most of the dishes in today’s bento are salty, so he gets some purple sweet potatoes. They are cut into flower shapes to decorate the bento. Tried to add some colour to the bento by adding carrots on top of the flowers but the bento still looked quite dark in color.
Packed in some braised pork with mushroom which I cooked yesterday. I gave him three big chinese dried mushroom, placed at the bottom so can’t be seen in the picture. I guess he will love the braised pork
The elephant onigiri is made using the elephant rice mould. As I wanted to use cheese to make the ears and the colour of the cheese is too near to the white colour rice, I put the braised pork gravy on the elephants’ ears before putting the cheese on.
This is a baby elephant in the picture. How can you tell it’s a baby elephant?
By the eyes! It has smaller eyes compared to the other three elephants. LOL. Baby elephant is smaller in size so that eyes are also smaller. Haha. Gave him four fish balls and the fish balls are sitting on fish cakes which were bought from the market and cut into small pieces.
I hope he enjoys his bento!

I lov the elephants … especially the BABY elephant … how could you tell it is baby by looking at it’s eyes, muahhaha … anyway, i lov them although the bento is not for ME
it makes me think of elephant dance where we dance during our secondary school … XD
Nice elephant bento! Like the idea of differentiate the baby elephants with the tiny eyes, very creative
