Birthday Bento

Today is hubby’s 26th birthday! Happy birthday to him ^_^ Baked him a japanese cheese cake, one of his favourite cakes, but the cake didn’t turn out perfectly. :( Will blog about it when I’m free.

Sandwich birthday cake

He had sandwich with smoked chicken ham for breakfast. I made the sandwich to look like a cake, added a Pocky stick to represent a candle :)

Drew a love with chili sauce

Birthday Bento 2010

I kept thinking of what bento to do for him on his birthday for many days and here it is :) Why so many people in the birthday bento, you may think! It’s because this bento was done based on an early birthday celebration photo with friends. We actually celebrated the birthday of two people at the same time because their birthdays fall on the same day! Both of them had no idea that we’re going to give them a surprised birthday celebration at Neway Karaoke but coincidentally, they both wore red colour shirts as if they wore it for the celebration :)

Notice all the girls have longer hair? And I applied blusher on all girls’ cheeks with chilli sauce. LOL! I actually made longer hair for my girl friends because they got longer hair than me but can’t be seen clearly in the bento. And can you spot the difference in guys’ faces? Firstly, they all have different hair style as in the number of fringe I cut for them. Haha! Secondly, “Birthday Men” have got bigger smile! The two “Birthday Men” got bigger smile compared to the man who has not turned 26 yet is still 25 years old >_< It’s their birthdays, of course they got to be happier and show bigger smile in the bento!

Smile :)

Their 26th birthdays

Hubby and I

Included two cherry tomatoes to make the balloons in the bento.

I took a picture of the half done bento. I grilled chicken breast and cut them into three squares, joined them together nicely to make a table for which the “cake”, steamed tofu was placed on top. I also grilled a salmon and cut them into smaller sizes and arranged them into the bento box. There were also some pan fried tofus to support the onigiris.

As I wanted to write something in the bento, I used a smoked chicken ham to cover the grilled salmon because writing on ham would be more visible than writing on the salmon. Next, I used broccolis to fill the spaces in the bento. Decorated the “cake” and broccolis with carrots.

Happy birthday!

Didn’t have enough space to write “happy birthday” in full. Haha!

Birthday cakes :)

Steamed tofus were used to make the cakes and the candles were made with spaghetti and corn.

Birthday presents

The birthday presents were made with cheese and artificial crabmeat. I used two types of cheeses, stacked them to get alternate colours and cut into small cubes. Artificial crabmeat was used to make the ribbon.

Bento draft

Here is the draft. What have I failed to do in the bento? Hmm, no more space to put in the edamame skewers and baby corns, used steamed tofu to make the “cake” instead of salmon (it’s a better choice because tofu was already in round shape and I think it would be quite challenging to cut the salmon into round shape), and I didn’t have enough space to draw the musical notes and to write the “happy birthday” in full :)

Blackberries, blueberries, cherries and orange

He has fruit bento for his afternoon tea.
