2010 FIFA World Cup Bento

I was quite busy in the kitchen yesterday, baking peanut butter carrot cake for my doggie’s 4th birthday celebration. I was quite tired and thought that I will not make anything special in hubby’s today’s bento. However, seeing that I was still in time to make a FIFA World Cup bento before hubby comes back home from work, I started preparing things for today’s FIFA bento.

2010 FIFA World Cup bento

FIFA World Cup Football Match

I selected a match between Spain and Switzerland to make in the bento. The leg on the left represents the Spain national football team while the one on the right represents the Switzerland national football team. I made this bento yesterday and microwaved it this morning. As for the score, hubby checked for me last night on the internet after the match was played. It’s 0 -1, Spain lost to Switzerland. So, I just added the score into the bento this morning, writing with mayonnaise. As for the football field, I put rice and pressed them neatly first, then I covered the rice with steamed veggie leaves.

The match  ball

I just knew that the match ball for this year is manufactured by Adidas. Would have made the Adidas logo on the football onigiri if I knew it earlier since Adidas logo is so easy to make. Of course nowadays, the football looks so much different with colours and pictures on it, I know! But this is the easiest to make and people would know I’m making a football when look at it and not something else :) So I just made the traditional football. However, it’s quite a hard job making the football onigiri because the pentagons were hard to cut. I spent quite some time cutting the pentagons freehand and these are the best pentagons I can come out with. I guess this will be the second and also the last football related bento I will do for this football fever season because I just don’t like cutting the pentagons. HAHA!

Spain VS Switzerland

One night, I asked hubby “do you know what colour of socks they’re gonna wear for the match?”. Hubby’s answer was he doesn’t know and he thinks they have few sets of jerseys and socks and it’s not always the same for every year. Hmm, so that means I can’t know what colour of socks to make to represent the teams until they play on that day. So, I just make flags of the teams on the socks. They don’t look exactly like their country flags, but something close to them. Haha! So, it’s Spain flag and Switzerland flag. For the football shoes, I actually googled how football shoes look like and cut something that look like football shoes with nori and used the white colour part of the artificial crabmeat to make the shoelace. Here are the Spain’s and Switzerland’s powerful legs! :D

Today’s dishes are teriyaki fish fillets, chicken nuggets, roast brussels sprouts and some cherry tomatoes. I guess hubby will like his FIFA World Cup bento as most guys love football.
