1st Mixed Rice Bento
Last night, we tried to go to bed early. Still, it was 1am already
Will try earlier tonight. But last night wasn’t my fault. It was hubby who worked OT and came back late but still took his own sweet time to shower and talked a lot before we finally fell asleep.
I’ve decided last night that I’m going to make him pancakes for breakfast this morning. But, couldn’t wake up early this morning, so I gave him a choice of cereal or bread as breakfast instead. He selected cereal. There are muesli, oats, dried fruits, pecans and walnuts in his cereal. With my influence, he starts to like cereal and he has chosen to have cereal as breakfast very often. I’m so happy because cereal is so easy to prepare and save time, LOL. Also, it’s healthy! This lazy wife can sleep a little longer too??! Of course not, the wife can then spend more time on the lunch and fruits bentos.
This is the first time I tried to pack him mixed rice instead of white rice or japanese rice. It’s a mix of brown rice, red rice and black glutinous rice. My big kid told me before that he prefers my rice to the white rice in his company’s lunch box because my rice always tastes nice. With such compliment, I have to put more effort to make him to continue to like my rice
Mixed rice is okay to me but I’m not sure about my big kid. So, to make the rice more appetizing, I’ve topped it with some tuna flakes cooked with miso and black and white sesame seeds so that he can mix the rice with the tuna if he finds the rice too dry or what.
Next to the rice are some shredded meats from a chicken drumstick. The chicken drumstick was cooked in the pepper spice soup and then shredded to pack in the bento so that he can enjoy them easily. In the pepper spice soup, there’re also hog maw and fish maw. I know my big kid loves the hog maw pepper soup very much. What is inside the Stitch tub? It’s some chili padi with soy sauce for him to eat with the meats and hog maw! I used a lettuce to separate the Stitch tub from the food so that it won’t become oily when he needs to open it later during lunch time. The bento definitely looks cuter with his favourite Stitch cartoon!
For veggies, I stir fried broccolis, cauliflowers, carrots, red capsicums and mushrooms with oyster sauce. Besides, I also stir fried some asparagus with olive oil and a pinch of salt.
I’ve also packed him a fruits bento – kiwi, grapes, banana and a cherry tomato. With the portion of fruits and veggies that I’ve packed for him and the high fibre breakfast he had, he surely can go to the toilet very easily! Haha!
This is the dinner I cooked two days ago. It’s enough to keep us full but not fatty. Hubby said he feels healthy when I cook :p So I guess I should cook more often and prepare balanced diets for him
I agree too, eating out is really not healthy especially when we opt for those fast food.
