Tiramisu Cake
My mother-in-law’s birthday falls on the 10th of May. Since my hubby will be on business trip during that time, we celebrated mothers’ day and her birthday earlier. Last Saturday, we decided to bake her a cake. That was our first baking experience. We got the ingredients from the market and asked the lady to teach us how to bake a tiramisu cake.
My assistant helping me with the measurement
He also helped with the cleaning at the beginning. I CLEANED ALMOST EVERYTHING BY MYSELF AFTER THAT.
Here are the ingredients to make the chocolate sponge cake
My first time playing with mum’s mixer >_<
Pour in the chocolate sponge cake mix
This is the batter. Mixing the ingredients were so easy with the help of the mixer!
Pouring the batter to the cake pan and it’s ready for baking
The cake started to “smile" a bit
Then it gave us a bigger smile
The round cake also smiled happily
After baking for 30min with the temperature of 180 degree celsius in the oven, the cakes are then tested.
Inserted the cake tester
The cake tester came out clean, so the cake was done
If you see the cake mixture on the cake tester, you should bake the cake a little longer
Since the cakes were done, they’re let to cool down
The cakes burnt a bit. So I shall reduce the temperature in my next baking.
Hahaha! Our sponge cake turned into this weird round shape! Does anyone have any idea why?
Maybe it was taken out from the hot oven too fast to the cooler room temperature?
We had a good laugh at our cakes
Well, it’s our first time. So we said “NEVER MIND"
While waiting for the cakes to cool down before we could halve them, we proceeded to the tiramisu mix
Bought a premix tiramisu for the cake filling
The tiramisu mix wasn’t that good, we should get a recipe and make our own mix next time
Getting a premix was easier. Just add water to it and you get your tiramisu filling for the cakes
Here the tiramisu filling was ready to be spread on the cakes that had been halved
It’s like doing some art and craft
Hubby then continued with the prototype
He even used his fingers other than the spatula!
This was his messy job
This was with my help, at least I cleaned the sides of the container
This was going to be my mother-in-law’s birthday cake so we had to be very careful while dealing with it
Our chocolate sponge cake with tiramisu filling, ready to be put into the fridge
The cakes were put in the fridge and we started to prepare the cream which we’re going to use for writing some birthday wishes on the cake
Started with writing on our prototype first
Took us quite long to write :p
It’s the first cake, baked on the 1st of May which was the Labour Day. This was what hubby did during Labour Day ^_^
He wrote his own name – Yiki. Not bad yah!
Sieving chocolate powder to the cake
The chocolate powder wasn’t even, so continue sieving…
Tried to take off the cake pan but the cake seemed to be soft still. So put it back and do the writing first
We just wrote a simple message “Happy Birthday”
Not enough space for my big writing! Haha!
No, actually we purposely wrote it this way to prove that the cake wasn’t bought. It’s homemade. LOL
Did we? Obviously not. Hehe
Running out of time to rewrite it
*Escorting the birthday cake*
When we’re ready to bring the cake, we then realised the box we bought for the cake was too small. OMG!!! How to fit in?
Hubby was clever enough to find these unused wooden chopsticks to hold the lid of the box, otherwise our hard work would be gone
Noticed the cake was melting! Another “OMG!!!” And ohhh, the “Y” was falling
When we reached my mother-in-law’s house, it’s so good to find that they wasn’t in
We quickly cleared the mess but the “Y” became a “V”
The cake was then put into the freezer instead of chiller, hoping that it wouldn’t continue to melt
Still, we went back later at night to give her the cake and hubby had to keep reminding "please cut the cake faster before it melts again!”
So after lighting the candle, quickly sang the birthday song, quickly took some photos, quickly blew the candle and cut the cake
Then, quickly keep the remaining in the freezer!

I admire your courage, you dare to present your 1st baking cake to your mom-in-law.
kheng! and good try! muaks!
Haha, a bit regret on the way of delivering the cake because the cake was melting. But I bet she saw our effort?!
By the way, why you give me kiss?
just because i sayang you mah … muaks muaks ! hahahah =p
